| Posted : Thursday, May 3, 2001 - 11:11 As you can see, things have been changing pretty radically lately, and for the better I hope.
I'm still working on a load of new systems (techs, combat, economy, etc) as well as trying to update the online manual. Since I work on it almost every day alot can change pretty quickly, so please bear with me.
To keep up to date, be sure to check the forums for news, and also the Development News page. |

| Posted : Monday, May 7, 2001 - 13:56 Hey all. Just letting you all know, I'll be testing out some new changes in NewTest shortly, including the new troops, new techs, and a FogOfWar similar system where you cant see enemy armies unless within range of your Outposts or armies.

| Posted : Monday, May 7, 2001 - 20:41 Oh come on not the Fog of War!! I think one of the coolest things in this game is that we can see all the action on the map. Unless ofcourse you introduce smaller games (1v1, 2v2 etc..) then it would be kewl. But not for the huge Tourny style games please!!
Just dropping a reply outta da blue =P

| Posted : Monday, May 7, 2001 - 22:56 beovipes is right. For the huge maps, it's fun being able to see the armies. However, knowing how many troops are in every single army no matter the distance from your outposts isn't that neccessary.

This will be really incredible. Put the game on animation and you will have warcraft =).

| Posted : Tuesday, May 8, 2001 - 09:58 Fog Of War = yes. Please. The scouts are useless. I built some when I first started playing, then releasized they were useless. Please hurry with the techs. As of now I'm not really playing the game because nothing seems to be changing much. |

Either way, I like the idea of Fog of War. |

I was thinking of allowing you some control over Clan things but not so sure. Might cause trouble.

Expanding magical maps... does that happen on all the games?.... yikes... have to rethink owning the corner now when you expand out then magically the map jumps south and east by a days travel wooooooooooooo nelly. Not sure if I like it or love it but puts a real crimp in my plans for domination when I become the man in the middle with a stroke of the keys. |

| Posted : Wednesday, May 16, 2001 - 05:42 Why is the world flat? I started on day 18 on the edge of the world, and in 4 days i was rank 14. Stratefy is a GREAT part of this game, but if you start at the edge you have what> 3 instead of 4 fronts which makes it really easy. Make the world round, wait, if it is too hard, forget i said this whole post.

| Posted : Wednesday, May 16, 2001 - 10:22 Making a round world scenario would be quite difficult, as the world expands as new players join (if the current map is too small to fit new players it will grow)
It would also be very awkward to play, as you very rarely look at the opposite side of the map, nor would you want to have to in order to survive.

| Posted : Sunday, May 20, 2001 - 11:31 Here's a 1/2 an idea about the fog of war. Maybe you could make it so that we could see the unit, but not the type, owner or pop of the troup. Like a sorta 'mystery unit'. Also a bug, if you hold the mouse over a unit even if its outa sight, it showes the pop, and lv. |

| Posted : Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 12:27 On the expanding map concept, here's a suggetion that makes it a tad more realistic. Right now, you just have this big black blob that represents the edge of the world. And then one day, the world suddenly expands?
Instead, what about adding a little buffer area around the edges, and make it all water. To expand the map, you can do one of two things:
1) Roll back the waterline as much room as is needed to accomodate the new territory. This would simulate a shrinking sea/growing continent concept. Kind of the opposite of the melting ice caps theory.
2) Create new continents outside of the existing area along with small spans of land that bridge to it. These 'bridges' could have evolved due to shifting shelves or volcanic activity. Once the bridges are exposed, then the primitive people discover the foreign lands beyond.
Personally, I like the second solution better. I also like the overall concept of the growing map. Either way, it gives you the benefit of starting at the edge, where it is easier to defend while building your economy. As you grow in power, suddenly a new front opens up for you to need to defend against. |
