It could be a timepiece, and that's a good direction to go, but it is not necessarily or even primarily a timepiece.

I'm beginning to think thismay be too hard... need a hint?

Nope. "It" is a class of items as I have stated numerous times, so any individual item you might think of will be wrong even if that item is among the items in the class. Think wider and broader. A hint: the answer is vaguely indicated in the title of the thread.

Are they round in shape?

Not necessarily or perhaps even usually. It is possible that some are round in shape, but probably not spherical.

18th question?

Apologies, I meant 2D round (like a table top) rather than 3D round as in spherical.

Yes, that was what I meant, it is more likely to be like atabletop than a ball. But it is still a misleading question and answer. A class of objects may be titled something like "everything that is used to communicate" or "all awards for bravery". I gave a hint, I'll give another, 50 is a significant number in the answer.

Ha I think this could be the group of 50 items that Mogs used in this quiz, Not sure what title you might give them though

well, a lot of things are having a 50th anniversary in 2009... so I can't really figure out anything there... especially not related to a class of items that could have descriptions meeting the other answers in this thread...

in short, I've got nothing.

Ok, lets refresh ourselves:

They are not living
They are solid
They are man-made
Most of them would fit inside a shoe box
They are generally of metal
They are not necessarily electronic - but could be.
They are not made of wood
They are directly related to Anniversaries
They are a class of objects
They are not hobby items
They may be but are not necessarily timepieces

I'm fed up writing all this down.... they are 50th anniversary presents (i.e. golden anniversary / golden jubilee items therefore generally made of gold - but not necessarily).
They are not tools
They may have moving parts
