there are 16 lit candles sitting on a table when a strong breeze blows in from the window, putting out 4 of the candles. if I close the window so that no more candles can blow out, how many candles will be left in the end?

Candles never completely consume themselves. If you count the stub left as a candle, which I would if asked, then there will be 16 left. Ultimately, the end of the universe will prove to be the undoing of all candles, so I suppose you could argue that there will be no candles left in the end.
